Keep up to date with news from across both sites and upcoming events with our monthly newsletter.

1. School uniform

It is so encouraging to see the children coming to school in their uniform, showing that they are proud to be part of the Valence community. A reminder that Blue and Grey is the Valence way. A white polo shirt (with a collar) is the standard shirt. As the warm weather is with us, grey shorts can be worn, as can summer dresses (blue gingham). Shoes should be mostly black. Girls should not be wearing black leggings without a grey skirt over the top. Pupils are encouraged to wear a hat for playtimes and bring a labelled water bottle to class.

2. Sports days

We are looking forward to holding the year group sports days before the end of term. As you can appreciate, these events are subject to the weather, and if it is too hot or wet, we may have to postpone. Some year groups are going to Valence Park to enjoy the events, whilst the younger pupils are in school. All the details have been circulated, and the website has the details too.

3. Rights Respecting School

Did you know that there are 42 articles which set out the rights of children? The Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) is an international treaty adopted in 1989, which the UK has agreed to follow. Watch this short video to get a basic understanding of a Rights Respecting School.

4. A polite reminder

No vaping or smoking near the school gates.

5. Nursery places

We are registering for September 2024, and at both sites, we will offer ALL-DAY provision (8.30am - 3.30pm) to a limited number of pupils. Enquire at the offices about places and procedures. Don’t miss out...

6. Curriculum

We continue to teach a broad and balanced curriculum with a key focus on developing maths and literacy skills alongside science, history, geography, art, design and technology, and sport. We also deliver PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) lessons, which are designed to support pupils with their emotional and mindful development.

7. Keep on reading…

I am sure that when your children were very young, you did not hesitate to read books to them. Well, don’t stop now that they can read for themselves. Why not choose an exciting story which is too difficult for them to read but which you can read to them? In this way, they will learn lots of new words and enjoy that special time with you.

8. Incredible but true!

Do you know you can all borrow books from the local libraries? 12 per child for 3 weeks!! Completely free. What an amazing resource for families……what a wonderful way to improve your child’s knowledge.

  • Valence library on Becontree Avenue
  • Dagenham library at Dagenham Heathway

Why not pop along to see the range of quality books you can freely borrow and ask how to register. It’s simple to register – you can even do it online.

9. Healthy school

The children are learning about how to look after our minds and bodies by what we choose to eat. Please ask your children about what they are studying, so that you can help them make good choices. Please remember:

  • No nuts of any type.
  • Only water or milk to drink – the school provides these freely too.
  • Minimise the number of foods with chocolate or high sugar content.
